Crohn's disease is an inflammatory bowel disease that affects parts of the gastrointestinal tract. The symptoms are abdominal pain, fever, weight loss and diarrhea however the disorder is still of unknown cause yet it might be of an autoimmune disease causing the immune system to attack harmless bacteria or virus. The laboratory tests include the liver function test for liver and bile duct problems, this is seen in people with Crohn's disease. Another is Electrolyte panel in which it can check the levels of minerals like potassium that would be lower due to diarrhea due to Crohn's disorder. Another is the Perinuclear anti-neutrophil antibodies known as pANCA and Anti-Saccharomyces Cerevisiae antibodies known as ASCA. These antibodies are biomarkers which can be a measurable substance that indicate the presence of the disorder. Patients with ulcerative colitis have pANCA while patients with Crohn have ASCA in the blood.
