let adult be x

and children be y

so

22x+15y= 228------1

x+y= 11----------------2

x= 11-y

Step two:

from 1

22(11-y)+15y= 228

242-22y+15y= 228

collect like terms

-7y= 228-242

7y= 14

divide both sides by 7

x= 2

from

x+y=11

y=11-2

y= 9
