Jamal gets the prize.  He factored it completely.
Jennifer multiplied the 3 into the (x+1) factor.

For one meal each person paid 1.07 times the price of the meal (includes 7% tax).

Therefore price of each person's meal was 13.75/1.07 = $12.85

 

Total cost for all 5 meals was therefore $64.25--before taxes.  $68.75 including the taxes.
