Most European colonies in Africa achieved their independence <em>peacefully, with little violence</em>. During World War II, African soldiers were conscripted into the imperialist militaries, they though that they would be more respected. President Roosevelt, while discussing post-war world, added a provision of autonomy of imperial colonies. So independence came through negotiations. In 1960, 17 countries became independent.
