A mountain climber who is at the top of a peak will have potential energy. That means he's not moving, just has the best possibly of moving. The higher you are, the more potential for moving energy you have. Say he (sadly) falls off the top, he would be rolling down with kinetic energy. Hope that helps :D

A climber at altitude has potential energy due to efforts to lift him higher in gravity's grip. His elevation gives him the potential to create kinetic energy if he had the misfortune to fall off
