The day after the arrest - after several eyewitnesses had released their video footage of the incident - all four police officers were fired. Two autopsy reports subsequently found that Floyd had been killed, although the conclusions of the two reports as to the cause of death are not conclusive.

In the United States, the incident led to large-scale demonstrations organized by Black Lives Matter around various American cities.
