For example, the Hillside Apartments was a steel framed construction and was damaged beyond repair after the quake. However, the building next it was wood frame construction and it survived with minor damages. 
Another thing to know is that wood can withstand massive earthquakes. Wood construction has some tremendous advantages. Wood is strong,light,flexible and fast.
