Voluntary muscles are muscles that are under our conscious control. Skeletal muscles are muscles that you control voluntarily. They are attached to the bone and forms a distinct organ of muscle tissue, blood vessels, tendons, and nerves that covers our bones and allows movement. We can choose to move our leg in order to run.

The types of muscles that can be controlled voluntarily are called skeletal muscles or striated muscles.

FURTHER EXPLANATION

Skeletal or striated muscles are muscles that are attached to bones and help in movement and locomotion. They are considered voluntary because they can be made to contract or relax by choice. Examples of skeletal muscles are the biceps, triceps, hamstrings, and quadriceps. These antagonistic pairs contract and relax whenever the person decides to do certain movements.

The other types of muscles are considered involuntary -the person has no control over when it is activated or moving and when it stops. Involuntary muscles include cardiac muscles and smooth muscles.

Cardiac muscles are the muscles around the heart. It causes the heart to move and helps pump the blood throughout the body.

Smooth muscles are muscles that are attached to internal organs and contract to help the organ perform its function. For example, the muscles in the intestine help the food to move along the gut. The movement of this muscle is called peristalsis.

Unlike skeletal muscles, the contraction of the cardiac muscle and the muscles in the intestine cannot be stopped or started at will.
