Whether or not to continue a Mardi Gras Parade through downtown San Luis Obispo, CA, is a hotly debated topic. The parade is pop

ular with students and many residents, but some celebrations have led to complaints and a call to eliminate the parade. The local newspaper conducted online and telephone surveys of its readers and was surprised by the results. The survey web site received more than 400 responses, with more than 60% favoring continuing the parade, while the telephone response line received more than 100 calls, with more than 90% favoring banning the parade.
What factors may have contributed to these very different results?

1) The size of samples is too small to avoid chance variation.

2) Different subpopulations used the website and the telephone.

3) People were forced to lie about their preferences.

4) People waver between two opinions.

Answer:

Mardi Gras Parade through downtown San Luis Obispo, CA

The factors that may have contributed to these very different results are:

2) Different subpopulations used the website and the telephone.

4) People waver between two opinions.

Step-by-step explanation:

a) Data and Calculations:

Responses from survey website = 400

Responses in favor of parade (survey website) > 60%

Responses against parade (survey website) < 40% (100 - 60)

Responses from telephone = 100 calls

Telephone responses against parade > 90%

Telephone responses in favor of parade < 10%

HELPPPP 80 POINTS
Solve the right triangle.
Round your answers to the nearest tenth
aev [14]

answer:

A=46°

a=17.983 (tenths- 18, hundredths- 17.98)

b=17.366 (tenths- 17.4, hundredths- 17.37)

explanation:

1. find angle A

it shows that the angle corresponding with the side length of 25 is a right angle, meaning it's 90°. using that information and the angle given to us (44°), we're able to find the missing angle. since all the angles in a triangle always add up to 180°, we can add the two angles together and then subtract that from 180° to find the missing angle.

90°+44°=134°

180°-134°=46°

A=46°

2. find side a

using the law of cosines, we're able to find the length of side a. cosine of an angle equals \frac{adjacent}{hypotenuse}. we'll be using angle B (44°) for our angle. after we plug in the values, we can just solve the equation to find side a.

cosine44°=\frac{a}{25}
(multiply both sides by 25)

25cosine44°=a
a=17.983

3. find side b

finding the length of side b is very similar to how you found side a. you can use the law of cosines again (make sure you use the right side lengths and angles!), but i used the law of sines. the sine of an angle equals \frac{opposite}{hypotenuse}. we're going to be using the same angle for this.

sine44°=\frac{b}{25}

(multiply both sides by 25)

25sine44°=b

b=17.366

Use the interactive to make a line that passes through
victus00 [196]

Answer:

You need to use the "point-slope" formula to solve this question. you already have 2 points...so now you need the slope...

Like Craig said, the first step is to find the slope of the line...this is "rise over run".

so ask yourself, "How far did i rise from the first point to the second point(the 'y' values)?" answer....from 2 to 5 takes 3 positive steps so...3 is the "rise" .

now, do the same with the "run".

ask yourself, "How far did i run from the first point to the second point?" answer....from 1 to 2 takes 1 positive step so...1 is the "run" . This gives a slope of 3/1.

Next, you have to put this slope and one of the points into that "point-slope" formula.

y-y1 =m(x-x1 ) ----> we will use the point (1,2) = (x1,y1) here

y-2=3(x-1)=3x-3

add 2 to both sides and you get your equation...

y = 3x-1

Hope this helped
