Appalachian Plateau is the smallest region of Georgia, located at the northwest of the state. A large part of the Appalachian Plateau is filled with coalfields which are the largest in the US.
Because of the abundance of this natural resource, <u>the region’s economy consists mostly of the coal industry.</u> It developed after the Civil War and has been on the rise ever since. The methods for coal mining have hanged over time and the industry has, sadly, resulted in many deaths.
