Which details in these lines contribute to the underlying tension of the scene as Salak prepares to depart?
Bas_tet [7]

Answer:

"<em>I open my bag, spread out my little red kayak, and start to  pump it up"</em>

The last line indicated excercebates to the underlying tension in the scene.

Salak had purposed in her mind to journey down the Timbuktu river in Africa.

Prior to this scene, she had been advised severally by her guide who even at this point (which is at the edge of the river) says he is unable to proceed any further. According to the narratives, no man had ever completed neither had any woman.

The odds were not in her favour at all.

The more the guide tries to dissuade her, the more her will crystallizes towards the decision to do so.

Finally, in the scene above, she starts to pump the Kayak (a light frame watertight canoe) in readiness to commence the journey amidst degenerating weather conditions.

Cheers!

In three to five sentences explain the type of conflict Marcus faces in this excerpt.
storchak [24]
<span>Hmm I would analyze this as a power struggle and the dynamics of the individual. As you can see, Marcus is arguing for his own freedom and states about "we used to be a free country" and also hints at the lack of privacy. You can feel the tension and the anger flaring in him from the diction that he uses to describe this, here his power and his rights is being "destroyed" because of not only the propaganda- but the symbolic figure of Mr. Benson- forcing him to apologize. Here the power struggle of the individual versus the conformity of a society without freedom of choice is so disliked and unwanted by Marcus he states that "He'd rather get kicked out than apologize." In other words if you want it short. 1. He's fighting against a government that limits the freedom of people and how they act. 2. Symbolically he is fighting against society by being the individual. 3. He is having problems with Mr. Benson and is not happy by how his used to be free country is now almost a dystopian land and that, there are no individual rights.</span><span />
