Answers:

  • Blank 1:  4
  • Blank 2:  -1

So the solution is (x,y) = (4, -1)

=============================================================

Work Shown:

6x + 7y = 17

6x + 7( y ) = 17

6x + 7( -3x+11 ) = 17 ... replace every copy of y with -3x+11

6x - 21x + 77 = 17

-15x = 17-77

-15x = -60

x = -60/(-15)

x = 4

We'll use this x value to find y

y = -3x+11

y = -3(4)+11 ... replace x with 4

y = -12+11

y = -1

We have  x = 4 and y = -1 pair up together to give us the solution (x,y) = (4, -1)

------------------------

To check the solution, we plug x = 4 and y = -1 into each equation

Plugging the values into the first equation leads to...

y = -3x+11

-1 = -3(4)+11

-1 = -1

This is effectively already done in the last part of the previous section. But it doesn't hurt to verify like this regardless.

We'll need to verify the second equation as well.

6x + 7y = 17

6(4) + 7(-1) = 17

24 - 7 = 17

17 = 17

We get a true equation, so the solution is confirmed with both equations. Overall, the solution to the system of equations is confirmed. This system is independent and consistent.

In a herd of cattle, the ratio of the number
Neko [114]

Answer:

In a herd no. of Cattle are: x

The ratio of bulls to cows is 1:6

\frac{bulls}{cows}  =  \frac{1}{6}

6 bulls = 1 cows

bulls \:  + cows = x

bulls + 6 \: bulls \:  = x

A music school charges a registration fee in addition to a fee per lesson. Write an equation if each lesson costs $40 and a regi
Jobisdone [24]
T = total cost for music school
L = # of lessons

T = $1,190 + ($40 × L)
T = $1,190 + ($40 × 12)
T. = $1,190 + $480
T = $ 1,670 for 12 lessons

A company has developed a new ink-jet cartridge for its printer that it believes has a longer life-time on average than the one
Mila [183]

Answer:

The test hypothesis is :

H_0: \mu=1502.5\\ H_a: \mu>1502.5

Step-by-step explanation:

Consider the provided information.

Null hypothesis refer the population parameter is equal to the claimed value.

If there is no statistical significance in the test then it is know as the null which is denoted by H_0, otherwise it is known as alternative hypothesis which denoted by H_a.

The historical average lifetime for cartridges produced by the current process is 1502.5 pages.

Hence, the test hypothesis is :

H_0: \mu=1502.5\\ H_a: \mu>1502.5
