Explanation:

1 hr on problems bc he's able to finish 40 problems which is better than reading for 1 hr since the teacher said reading for 1 hr is equivalent to solving 35 problems. in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th hours he solves less than 35 problems each hour so it's better to just read for an hour.

According t to the TA's advice, Working 35 problems raises the score as much as reading the text for an hour. He gets the 35 problems done the first hour, (actually 40) but gets about half as effective with each passing hour. So spending the next Three hours reading would be more productive than working problems-- at least according to the data here.

I'd rather have the option to do problems for an hour, then read for an hour, then go back to working problems, then reading. Varied activities keep you from getting bored and unproductive.
