Calculate the energy (in eV/atom) for vacancy formation in some metal, M, given that the equilibrium number of vacancies at 296o
Schach [20]

Explanation:

The given data is as follows.

       Temperature of metal = 296^{o}C = (296 + 273) K

                                            = 569 K

     Density of the metal = 8.85 g/cm^{3} = 8.85 \times 10^{-6} g/m^{3}      (as 1 cm^{3} = 10^{-6} m^{3})

     Atomic mass = 51.40 g/mol

    Vacancies = 9.19 \times 10^{23} m^{-3}

Formula to calculate the number of atomic sites is as follows.

           n = \frac{\rho \times N_{A}}{\text{atomic weight}}

              = \frac{8.85 \times 10^{-6} \times 6.022 \times 10^{23}}{51.40 g/mol}

              = 1.036 \times 10^{17} atom/m^{3}

Now, we will calculate the energy as follows.

                E = -KT \times ln (\frac{\text{no. of vacancies}}{\text{no. of atomic sites}})

where,    K = 8.62 \times 10^{-5}

         E = -8.62 \times 10^{-5} \times 569 K \times ln (\frac{9.19 \times 10^{23}}{1.036 \times 10^{17} atom/m^{3}})

               = 78.46 eV/atom

Therefore, we can conclude that energy (in eV/atom) for vacancy formation in given metal, M, is 78.46 eV/atom.

Which of the following occurs first in the generation of an action potential?
spayn [35]
It seems that you have missed the necessary options for us to answer this question so I had to look for it. Anyway, here is the answer. The one that occurs first in the generation of an action potential is that t<span>he membrane depolarizes. Hope this answers your question. Have a great day!</span>

| A 1.0 kg stone is dropped from a bridge 100 m above a canyon. What will be the kinetic energy of the stone after it
Mnenie [13.5K]

Answer:

Option D

490 J

Explanation:

When at a height of 100 am above and released, the ball initially posses only potential energy. When it falls, some potential energy is converted to kinetic energy.

Initial potential energy= mgh where m is the mass, g is the acceleration due to gravity and h is height. Substituting 1 Kg for m, 9.81 for g and 100 m for h then

PE initial = 1*9.81*100= 981 J

At 50 m, PE will be 1*9.81*50=490.5 J

Subtracting PE at 50 m from initial PE we get the energy that has been converted to kinetic energy hence

981-490.5= 490.5 J

Approximately, 490 J

If a bird collides with the windshield of a fast-moving bus, Which one experiences and impact force with larger magnitude? Which
Ugo [173]
Both of them experience the same force in magnitude due to newtons third law. however, the one with the smallest mass experiences the greater acceleration due to newtons second law (F=ma) in which a=F/m
