An alloy fin with a thermal conductivity of 200 W/ሺm ∙ Kሻ has a length of 2.5 cm and a thickness of 3.5 mm. The base of the fin

is held at 400o C and the ambient is at 20o C. Assuming that heat loss from the tip is negligible and that the convective heat transfer coefficient is 10 W/ሺmଶ ∙ Kሻ and the fin to be 1m wide, Find the heat transfer flux.

Answer: heat flux into the fun is 21.714 mW/m^2

Explanation:

Heat flux Q = q/A

q = heat transfer rate W

A = area m^2

q = area * conductivity * temperature gradient

Temperature gradient = difference in temperature of the metal faces divided by the thickness.

Therefore Q = k * ( temp. gradient)

Q = 200 * ((400-20)/3.5*10^-2)

Q = 21714285.71 = 21.714 mW/m^2

Answer 2: convective heat transfer flux between fin and air

is 3800W/m^2

Explanation :

q = hA*(Ts-Ta)

h = convective heat transfer coefficient

Ts = temperature of fin

Ta = temperature of air

Q = q/A

Q = h(Ts-Ta)

Q = 10(400 - 20)

Q = 3800 W/m^2

One problem with organic equations is that we tend to focus on what is happening to onemolecule at a time, we forget that there
stellarik [79]

Answer:

1 2 200 000 000 000 000 000 000 (20 zeros) molecules

Explanation:

Molar mass of 1-butanol = 74.121 g/mol

number of moles = mass given / molar mass

where mass given = 1.5 g

number of mole = 1.5 g / (74.121g/mol ) = 0.0202 moles

number of moles = number of molecules / Avogadro's constant

where Avogadro's = 6.022 × 10²³ mol⁻¹

number of moles = 6.022 × 10²³ × 0.0202 moles = 1 2 200 000 000 000 000 000 000 (20 zeros) molecules

Consider the smoothie example given in class: Write down the production function of Tutti Frutti Smoothie example given in class
mart [117]

Answer:

Production Function : TFSq = f { ingredient 1 ...... ing. i }

Increasing/ Constant/  Increasing Returns to Scale :

Output change > / = / < Input change respectively

Explanation:

Production Function is the relationship between production inputs & outputs, given technology. It denotes the maximum output that can be generated with given inputs.

Tutti Frutti Smoothie [TFS] quantity = Function of {Ingredient1.....ingredient i}

Returns to Scale represents change in output when all inputs change in same proportion.

  • Constant Returns to Scale [CRS] : Output Change = All inputs change
  • Increasing Returns to Scale [IRS] : Output Change > All inputs change
  • Negative Returns to Scale [NRS] : Output Change < All inputs change

When all inputs (ingredients) change by same proportion i.e get twice 2X :- If output of Tutti Frutti Smoothie increases by > 2X  i.e 3X - IRS.  If it increases equal ie 2X - CRS. If it increases lesser i.e 1.5X - CRS.
