Answer: Pressure ulcers are caused by intrinsic and extrinsic factors. The intrinsic factors include immobilization, cognitive deficit, chronic illness (eg, diabetes mellitus), poor nutrition, use of steroids, and aging. There are 4 extrinsic factors that can cause these wounds—pressure, friction, humidity, and shear force.
The ability of an organism to maintain its internal stability against external environmental changes thereby developing the constant internal environment within the organism is known as Homeostasis.
Homeostasis is deeply produced in warm-blooded animals to control body temperature, fluid balance, blood pH, and oxygen pressure, concentration of chemicals, etc.
During homeostasis process entire body system work together to maintain the balance. If not controlled or if disrupted the process will result in disease or disorder.
