The first commercial application of genetic engineering was the use of bacteria to make insulin, a medicine needed by diabetics.
Murljashka [212]

Answer:

The question is incomplete, it lacks options. The options are:

A) It has made the demand for insulin decrease.

B) It has made the incidence of diabetes decrease.

C) It has made it easier for diabetics to inject themselves with insulin.

D) It has made insulin cheaper and more readily available.

The answer is D

Explanation:

Genetic engineering is a biotechnological procedure that involves the transfer of genes from one organism to another using biotechnology. In this case, bacteria cells are said to be genetically modified because their genetic content is tampered with and the genes that produces the insulin protein in humans is added into their genome. Hence, they transcribe and translate this gene to produce the protein-insulin.

Diabetic patients cannot produce this insulin in their system. Hence, the insulin produced from this genetically modified bacteria cells can be administered to diabetics via injection. This genetically modified way of producing insulin has proven to be a far better option to the previous practice of slaughtering cattles and pigs to obtain this protein because the GM method allows insulin to be produced in large amounts making it available and cheaper to diabetics.

Answer:

To my Knowledge and understanding, the name of fluid A is oxygenated Blood or u could simply submit blood. Fluid A does contain red blood cells, namely Hemoglobin. I am not quite sure what fluid B is, but visually it looks like the cytoplasm surrounding cells. According to my knowledge cytoplasm does not contain red blood cells, but rather it contains glucose, sugars and proteins etc.

Hope this helps!

A species of salamander has two tail length phenotypes. Short tails are completely dominant over long tails. A scientists crosse
goldfiish [28.3K]

Answer:

D. If all of the offspring are short-tailed, the unknown individual is the homozygous dominant genotype.

Explanation:

The short tail phenotype is completely dominant over the long tail phenotype. When a short tailed salamander with unknown genotype is crossed with a homozygous recessive long tailed salamander, the cross is called testcross. Lets assume that the allele "S" gives "short tail" phenotype while the allele "s" gives "long tail" phenotype.

If the "short tailed salamander" with unknown genotype is homozygous dominant (SS), the process of the testcross will express only dominant trait (cross 1). On the other hand, if the "short tailed salamander" with unknown genotype is heterozygous dominant (Ss), segregation of alleles during gamete formation would form two types of gametes (cross 2). The 50% progeny would express the "long tail" phenotype while rest 50% will express the "short tail" phenotype.

In an ecosystem, can there be more carnivores than herbivores? Explain why or why not?
Sergio039 [100]
Yes. In a desert, which mostly is sand, insects, and animals, there are mostly carnivores. Carnivores are animals that eat meat. there is little vegetation in deserts because of the dry soil and lack of rain.
