Compare and contrast the Taj Mahal and Templo Mayor, Tenochtitlan. Discuss the form, materials, purpose, and symbolism of each.
Marysya12 [62]

Answer:

The Aztecs founded a lot of city-states through the territory. One of the most important was Tenochtitlan, built-in 1318 / 1325. Mexico City would settle on it. Centuries later, from 1631 to 1654, the El Taj Mahal began to be built in Agra, India.

Considered as a palace by many, the Taj Mahal was originally a mausoleum built by Muslim emperor Shah Jahan in honor of his dead wife, which he loved very much. With different intentions, the Aztecs built a temple to magnify their patron gods, Huitzilopochtli and Tlaloc. At first, the monument was nothing more than a small shrine made with simple materials (straw and grass). But, because each ruler undertook a new constructive stage, it ended up becoming a majestic pyramid.

The Tenochiltlan temple had several constructions in a row, but mainly it was a high-rise sacred temple, with divisions for the two gods, some stairs where only the priests and the sacrificed could cross. But The Taj Mahal was built with the best materials, using white marble, also included precious stones such as sapphire, amethysts, quartz, and even diamonds. In that case, it was more expensive and fancy in his construction, who has about 14 hectares and has huge gardens.

As for symbolism, the monument of India represents love, paradise, and spiritual encounter. On the side of Tenochiltlan, it represents the history of the Aztecs before being destroyed by Hernan Cortes, it was an offering center to the gods and the earth.
