Answer:

Yes the y value an have more than one x value BUT the x value can only have one y value.

Step-by-step explanation:

example if we have 1 and it goes to 2 the 1 cant go to another number such as 3.. if we had another number like 4 and it goes to 2 like the 1 it would be acceptable

hope this helped and is not to confusing-

If rain is falling at 0.5 inches per hour and 1.5 inches have already accumulated, how many hours must have passed if there are
zavuch27 [327]

Given :

Rain is falling at 0.5 inches per hour and 1.5 inches have already accumulated.

To Find :

How many hours must have passed if there are 5 inches of rain .

Solution :

Let , after x hours rain accumulated is 5 inches .

We know , general equation of line :

y = mx +c

Here , m = 0.5 and c = 1 .

So , equation of rain accumulated is :

y=0.5x+1

Now , putting value of x = 5 hours .

We get :

y=0.5\times 5+1\\\\y=2.5+1=3.5\ inches

Hence , this is the required solution .

I am very confused lol... So I'm doing a worksheet for Algebra 1 (highschool) and we're doing division and multiplication with f
evablogger [386]

OK first change 3 3/4 to an improper fraction and that will give you  15/4. so you got that part right.  Next, change the division sign to multiplication. then flip the 1/2 to 2/1.  Then multiply 15 times 2 and that will give you 30. Then multiply 4 times 1 and that will give you 4. then you will have an answer of  30/4. Finally, since you a have a big number over a small number you divide 30 by 4 and that will give you 7 1/2. So it turns out that your little cheat sheet is wrong because when you check your answer you should go on Math-way to check it. Also, a little background about me is that I am in 8th grade and I am taking algebra 1 too.

Grading managers. Some companies "grade on a bell curve" to compare the performance of their managers and professional workers.
Monica [59]

Answer:

\mu = 250, \sigma = 175.781

Step-by-step explanation:

Previous concepts

Normal distribution, is a "probability distribution that is symmetric about the mean, showing that data near the mean are more frequent in occurrence than data far from the mean".

The Z-score is "a numerical measurement used in statistics of a value's relationship to the mean (average) of a group of values, measured in terms of standard deviations from the mean".

Solution to the problem

Let X the random variable that represent the grades of a population, and for this case we know the distribution for X is given by:

X \sim N(\mu,\sigma)

For this case we have two conditions given:

P(X

P(X>475) = 0.1 or equivalently P(X

And the best way to solve this problem is using the normal standard distribution and the z score given by:

z=\frac{x-\mu}{\sigma}

So we can find a value from the normal standard distribution that accumulates 0.1 and 0.9 of the area in the left, for this case the two values are:

z= -1.28, z=-1.28

We can verify that P(Z<-1.28) =0.1[/tex] and P(Z<1.28) =0.9[/tex]

And then using the z score we have the following formulas:

-1.28 = \frac{25 -\mu}{\sigma}   (1)

1.28 = \frac{475 -\mu}{\sigma}   (2)

If we add equations (1) and (2) we got:

\frac{25 -\mu}{\sigma} + \frac{475 -\mu}{\sigma} =0

We can multiply both sides of the equation by \sigma and we got:

25+ 475 -2 \mu = 0

\mu = \frac{500}{2}= 250

And then we can find the standard deviation for example from equation (1) and we got:

\sigma = \frac{25-250}{-1.28}=175.781

So then the answer would be:

\mu = 250, \sigma = 175.781
