-x - 5 = 8

The first step would be to divide both sides by 2...because u want to get the absolute value on one side, and everything else on the other side

2 | x + 5 | = 16...divide both sides by 2
| x + 5 | = 16/2
| x + 5 | = 8

u would then solve x + 5 = 8 and x + 5 = -8 for ur answers
