In order to figure this out you can divide 9 3/4 and 1/4 because you want to know how many sets of 1/4 fits into 9 3/4.
9 3/4 ÷ 1/4 = 9 3/4 · 4 = 39/4 · 4 = 39
SO the answer is 39.

39 since 9 has 36 and 3/4 has 3 = 36+3 = 39

If a adult ticket is 5$ and a student ticket is 1$ the total money collected is 2,662 and the sold ticket is 1,198
PIT_PIT [208]
5a + s = 2662
a + s = 1198
4a = 1464
a = 366

5(366) + s = 2,662
1830 adult tickets sold

2662 - 1830 = 832
832 student tickets sold

John made a rectangle pen for his dog using 28 feet of fencing. If the width of the pen is 2 feet more than one-half the length,
kati45 [8]
Okay, so you know that the perimeter of the pen is 28 feet. Now we need the separate side lengths.

P = 28 ft.
Length = x
Width = (1/2)x + 2

So now we can plug in the little equations of length and width into a perimeter formula:
 2(x) + 2((1/2)x + 2) = 28
Distribute the 2's and solve as needed.
2x + x + 4 = 28
3x + 4 = 28
3x = 24
x = 8

To find the width, just plug in 8 for x in our little equation:
(1/2)(8) + 2
= 6

So, the length is 8 feet and the width is 6 feet.

An 8.5-meter ladder is leaning against a vertical wall. How many meters is its base from the wall if the ladder reaches 7.5 mete
Monica [59]

Answer:

  4 m

Step-by-step explanation:

The geometry is that of a right triangle with hypotenuse 8.5 m and one side of length 7.5 m. If "b" represents the distance from the base of the ladder to the wall, the Pythagorean theorem tells us ...

  b² + 7.5² = 8.5²

  b² + 56.25 = 72.25

  b² = 16 . . . . . . . . . . . . . subtract 56.25

  b = 4 . . . . meters . . . (take the square root)

The base of the ladder is 4 m from the wall.

_____

You may recognize this as the 8-15-17 Pythagorean triple, scaled by 1/2.
