Write an explicit formula for the geometric sequence below and use it to find the 9th term. 256, 64, 16, 4, . . .
Nastasia [14]

im doing this problem right now---

ok so a1=256 a2=64 a3=15 a4=4... find a9

the sequence divides by 1/4 every term

an=a1*r^n-1

an=(256)*(1/4)^n-1

replace n with 9

A9=(256)*(1/4)^9-1

A9=(256)*(1/4)^8

=(256)*(1/4)

A9=64^8

1/256 or a9= 0.00390625

Which of the following is true for the relation f(x) = x2 + 8? Only the inverse is a function. Both the equation and its inverse
Alchen [17]

<u>ANSWER</u>

Only the equation is a function

<u>EXPLANATION</u>

f(x)=x^2+8 is graphed above with its inverse f^{-1}(x)=\pm \sqrt{x-8}.

We perform the vertical line test for both the equation and its inverse.

The equation f(x)=x^2+8 passed the vertical line hence it is a function.

However, f^{-1}(x)=\pm \sqrt{x-8} failed the vertical line test, hence it is not a function.

Select "Growth" or "Decay" to classify each function.
allochka39001 [22]

1. The growth rate equation has a general form of:

y = A (r)^t

The function is growth when r≥1, and it is a decay when r<1. Therefore:

y=200(0.5)^2t                    --> Decay

y=1/2(2.5)^t/6                  --> Growth

y=(0.65)^t/4                       --> Decay

2. We rewrite the given equation (1/3)^d−5 = 81

Take the log of both sides:

(d – 5) log(1/3) = log 81

d – 5 = log 81 / log(1/3)

d – 5 = - 4

Multiply both sides by negative 1:

- d + 5 = 4

So the answer is D
