Well, you first have to make the mixed fraction into an improper fraction. You then multiply the two fractions and ad the whole number into the total.

First you need common denominator
x/2 - 6/2 = 34/2
now , eliminate denominator
x - 6 = 34 add 6 to both sides and simplify
x=40
