NVidia, the pioneering computer graphics chip maker has a line of production of a semiconductor component of one of its chips. T

he production process represents number of units produced per day (Q) as a function of labor (L), which costs $400 per unit, and capital (K), which costs $800 per unit. The following production function describes the process:
Q= 3L^2K

Required:
If cost were limited to $16,800, the equilibrium combination of K and L is:_______

Answer:

The equilibrium combination of K and L is <u>7, 28</u>. That is, 7 K’s and 28 L’s.

Explanation:

This can be determined as follows:

Q = 3L^2K

s.t.

400L + 800K -16800

Using a Langrangian multiplier function G with ∅ as the multiplier, we have:

G = 3L^2K – ∅(400L + 800K -16800) ……………… (1)

Partially differentiate G with respect to L, K and ∅, we have:

∂G / ∂L = 6LK – ∅400 = 0 …………….. (2)

∂G / ∂K = 3L^2 – ∅800 = 0 ……………. (3)

∂G / ∂∅ = 400L + 800K – 16800 = 0 …………… (4)

From equation (2), we have:

6LK = ∅400

∅ = 6LK / 400

∅ = 0.015LK …………………….. (5)

From equation (3), we have:

3L^2 = ∅800

∅ = 3L^2 / 800

∅ = 0.00375L^2 …………… (6)

Equating (5) and (6) and solve for L, we have:

0.00375L^2 = 0.015LK

L^2 / L = 0.015K / 0.00375

L = 4K ……….. (7)

Substituting L = 4K into equation (4) and solve K, we have:

400(4K) + 800K – 16800 = 0

1600K + 800K = 16800

2400K = 16800

K = 16800 / 2400

K = 7

Substitute K = 7 into equation (7), we have:

L = 4 * 7

L = 28

Therefore, the equilibrium combination of K and L is <u>7, 28</u>. That is, 7 K’s and 28 L’s.

Unions and productivity In some industries, the labor productivity of union workers exceeds the labor productivity of nonunion w
MA_775_DIABLO [31]

Answer:

C. Because union wages exceed nonunion wages, employees may be encouraged to work harder.

D. Unions may provide information to companies about how to improve operations and eliminate problems in the work environment.

Explanation:

Workers' unions have been instrumental in ensuring that workers work in the environment that is safe and conducive. Not only that, the unions also ensure that the workers are remunerated fairly for their labor and services. Thus, the wages of the unioned workers are higher because unions bargain for the increase in the worker's wages.

Furthermore, the worker's union work hand in hand to exchange information about the conditions of the workers and how the companies can eliminate the potential problems that result in worker dissatisfaction. In addition, the unions protect workers from exploitation.

If the Fed increases the discount rate, which of the following accurately describes the sequence of events that will follow in t
AnnZ [28]

Answer: A. Reserves ↓: Excess reserves ↓; Loans ↓; Deposits ↓; Money supply ↓

Explanation:

The discount rate is the rate at which the Fed lends money to banks and other depository type institutions. Normally banks have a reserve requirement that the Fed requires of them which states how much they are to leave with the Fed as a reserve. Banks tend to fall short of this reserve sometimes and so can borrow from the Fed to balance it off.

If the Fed increase the rate at which these banks can borrow, they will not want to do so thus leaving their Reserves at the Fed lower than it should be. They will then use their excess reserves which is money kept in reserve more than the Fed requires, to balance off their reserve at the Fed.

As a result of this reduction in their Excess reserve, they will have less money to give out as loans. With less loans being made, people will not have as much money to deposit after taking the loans. Money supply will then fall as a whole.

Marc, a single taxpayer, earns $60,000 in taxable income and $5,000 in
lesya692 [45]

Answer:

Federal tax = $10,856.25

Explanation:

Given:

Tax rate schedule for year 2014.

Income between  $36,900 - $89,350

$5,081.25 + 25% over $36,900

Total income = $60,000

Computation:

So,Income between  $36,900 - $89,350

Federal tax = $5,081.25 + 25% ($60,000 - $36,900)

Federal tax = $5,081.25 + 25% ($23,100)

Federal tax = $5,081.25 + 0.25 ($23,100)

Federal tax = $5,081.25 + $5,775

Federal tax = $10,856.25
