Answer:

I believe it would be 5 ft

Step-by-step explanation:Because basically you already have the base of the tree that is remaining which is 5 ft and you already know the base of the part that broke which is 12 ft. SO ALL YOU WOULD HAVE TO DO IS

ADD

12+5 WHICH IS EQUAL TO 17 AND THEN SUBTRACT 17 FROM 12 WHICH IS 5 FT.

Does it matter what order you add the numbers in a problem? explain how chips and numbers lines support your answer.
Mrac [35]

Answer: No, it does not matter.

Step-by-step explanation:

In addition the order does not matter, this is because of the commutative property of the addition, that says that: A + B = B + A

and the associative property, that says that:

A + (B + C) = (A + B) + C

for example, if you have 4 chips and your friend gives you her 5 chips, now you have a total of 4 + 5 =  9 chips.

The case is the same if you have 5 chips and your friend gives you 4 chips, now you have 5 + 4 = 9 chips.

Other example is that:

5 chips + ( 2chips + 1 chip) = 5 chips + 3 chips = 8 chips

(5 chips + 2 chips) + 1 chip = 7 chips + 1 chip = 8 chips

You can see that the order does not matter.
