I think the best way to solve this is to convert the ratios into fractions and then subtract from there :)

If L=√(x^2+y^2), dx/dt =-4, dy/dt=3, find dL/dt when x=4 and y=3
yulyashka [42]

Hello,

L=\sqrt{x^2+y^2} \\\\\dfrac{dx}{dt}=-4\\\\\dfrac{dy}{dt}=3\\\\x=4, y=3\\\\\dfrac{\partial L} {\partial x} =\dfrac{x}{\sqrt{x^2+y^2}} \\\\\dfrac{\partial L} {\partial y} =\dfrac{y}{\sqrt{x^2+y^2}} \\\\\dfrac{dL}{dt} =\dfrac{\partial L} {\partial x}*\dfrac{dx}{dt}+\dfrac{\partial L} {\partial y}*\dfrac{dy}{dt}\\\\=-4*\frac{-4}{\sqrt{4^2+3^2}} +3*\frac{3}{\sqrt{4^2+3^2}}\\\\=\dfrac{16}{5} +\dfrac{9}{5} \\\\=5\\

Please help find surface area!!
NeTakaya

Answer:

138 cm.

Step-by-step explanation:

So first, we find the S.A. of the front and back.

The diagram says the side length of the front is 3 cm. and 3 cm.

3x3=9. So then, the back is also 9 cm, 9+9=18.

Now to find the S.A.'s of the four sides, you have to see the side lengths of each of them. The side lengths are 3 and 10.

3x10=30. This means each of them is 30 cm.

30x4=120. 120 is the total surface area of the four sides.

To find the total surface area of the whole rectangle, you add all the surface areas.

120+18=138 cm. (Not squared, since it's surface area and not area.)

Which point is an x-intercept of the quadratic function f(x) = (x – 4)(x + 2)?
lozanna [386]

The quadratic equation is in factored form, which is f(x) = (x - a)(x - b), where a and b are the x-values for the x-intercepts.

The x-values for the x-intercepts are 4 and -2. We know that the y-value at any x-intercept must be 0 (otherwise it isn't an x-intercept).

Thus, either the points (4,0) or (-2,0) must be your answer (the question is only asking for one x-intercept).
