Astronomers sometimes use angle measures divided into degrees, minutes, and seconds. One degree is equal to 60 minutes, and one

minute is equal to 60 seconds. Suppose that ∠J and ∠K are complementary and that the measure of ∠J is 45 degrees, 30 minutes, 14 seconds. What is the measure of ∠K?
The measure of ∠K is ______ degrees, ______minutes, and _____ seconds.

Answer:

Here's what you need to know to answer this question:

            If two angles are "complementary"

then they add up to 90 degrees.

So now you know that

                                    (Angle-J) + (Angle-K) = 90 degrees .

Subtract (Angle-J)

from each side:                              Angle-K = (90 degrees) - (Angle-J)

    Angle-K  =  (90 degrees) minus (48 degrees 26 minutes 8 seconds)

As soon as you do that subtraction, you have the answer.

The thing that makes it tough is subtracting some minutes

and some seconds from 90 degrees.

How you do that is:  An unusual kind of regrouping ('borrowing').

Usually, when you regroup, you take '1' from a place and use it

to make '10' in the smaller place.

This time, when you take '1' from a place, it gives you '60'

in the smaller place.

-- Take 1 degree away from the 90 degrees.

   Use it to make minutes.

Then you have                  89 degrees  60 minutes .

-- Take 1 minute away from the 60 minutes.

   Use it to make seconds.

then you have                    89 degrees  59 minutes  60 seconds .

Now the subtraction is a lot easier.

            89 degrees  59 minutes  60 seconds

minus   48 degrees  26 minutes    8 seconds .

That's easy to do, and the difference is the measure of Angle-K.

What is the volume of the cylinder
bekas [8.4K]

Answer:

C.

Step-by-step explanation:

The formula for a cylinder is V = (pi) (r^2) (h) so 12*12 is 144. 144*pi*17 is 2448 pi units cubed.

What is the range of the function f(x) = -|X - 4| + 5?
Law Incorporation [45]

Answer:

Range = (-<em>∞, 5</em>)

Step-by-step explanation:

This is the absolute value function with transformation.

The parent function is f(x) = |x|

This function has a "negative" in front, so it makes it reflect about x axis

The -4 after x makes horizontal translation of 4 units right

the +5 at the end makes the function translate 5 units UP

<em>The graph is shown in the attached picture.</em>

<em>Looking at the graph, we can clearly see the range. The range is the allowed y-values. Hence, we can see that the </em><em>range is  -infinity to 5</em>

<em />

<em>answer is not properly given, so i can't choose from the options, but the answer is -∞, 5 to 5</em>

What are the minimum, first quartile, median, third quartile, and maximum of the data set?
allochka39001 [22]
If we rearrange the given data set from lowest to highest, we have
     3,\:6,\:7,\:8,\:10,\:12,\:15,\:18

The minimum is 3.

The first quartile is the average of 6 and 7, which is 6.5

The median is the average of 8 and 10 which is 9.

The third quartile is the average of 12 and 15 which is 13.5.

The maximum is 18.
