Fraction of the shape shaded on these two shapes??
xxTIMURxx [149]
The one of the left isn't too tricky, in the bottom left of it you have 1/2 of 1/4 of the shape, and on the bottom right you have 1/4 of 1/4. Imagine the whole shape was cut up like that bottom right bit into 16 triangles, then you would have three of them shaded (see my diagram).

The one on the right seems like guesswork to me, so I'm sorry if I'm wrong. It look like you just have to use your eyes to work out how much of the bottom half of the shape is shaded: looks like 1/16 to me (i.e. you can draw four of those along and four down, again, see my diagram.) So plus the top half, which is 8/16, you get 9/16.

Answers: left picture: 3/16.
                 right picture: 9/16.

If they all painted at the same rate the equation is this

mothers 8
daughters 12  at 220 sq ft

mothers 6
daughters 8 at 152 sq ft

220 +152 =372 divided by 34 (because they all painted at the same rate)=10.94 sq ft they each painted

Peggy had three times as many quarters as nickels. She had $1.60 in all. How many nickels and how many quarters did she have? Wh
svlad2 [7]
Let q and n represent the number of quarters and nickels respectively.

q=3n and .05n+.25q=1.6  These are the conditions in mathematical terms.

To solve, use the value of q from the first equation in the second equation to get:

.05n+.25(3n)=1.6  carry out indicated multiplication on left side

.05n+.75n=1.6  combine like terms on left side

.8n=1.6  divide both sides by .8

n=2, since q=3n

q=6

So Peggy had 2 nickels and 6 quarters.
