(16) The result of…… breathing is a distorted voice quality
olya-2409 [2.1K]

The result of clavicular breathing is a distorted voice quality.

In upper lobe breathing, clavicular breathing, or clavicle breathing, air is drawn primarily into the ribcage by elevating the shoulders and collarbone (clavicle) and simultaneously contracting the abdomen on inspiration.

It is also known as shallow breathing. Some conditions are marked by or are symptoms of shallow breathing.

The most common conditions include: various anxiety disorders, asthma, hyperventilation, pneumonia, pulmonary edema and shock. Episodes of anxiety, stress, and panic are often accompanied by shallow breathing.

Excessive shallow breathing, also known as hypopnea, can medically lead to hypoventilation, which can cause a build-up of carbon dioxide in a person's body, a symptom known as hypercapnia.

This is a condition associated with neuromuscular disorders (NMDs) including Lou Gehrig's disease, muscular dystrophy, polio, post-polio syndrome and others.

This is a serious illness if misdiagnosed or overlooked. It is often referred to as a "sleep disorder".
