The best answer is D) His appearance repels humans.

Frankenstein's monster is a man who is, by human standards, hideous, terrifying, and assumed by his appearance to be a dangerous brute. For this reason, the human senses, especially the sight of him, repels humans and serves as a barrier to his ability to connect with humans and show them kindness.

It could be said that this excerpt indicates that his appearance repels humans (option D) .They do not comprehend him because of its looks. It seems that the only solution was to create a female companion for him , she would be the only one the monster could be with him.

What does the narrator believe is trapped behind the wallpaper
bonufazy [111]

The narrator believed that a woman is trapped behind the wallpaper. The woman is the representation of her repressed self being trapped in it. The domestic world had made her the prisoner. She had silently submitted her to the household chores which has made her live in the domestic prison. The pattern of the wallpaper makes her realize how far she had been a prison in such a lifestyle. The shaking and the crawling of the wallpaper are symbolic of her being trapped inside it.
