Explanation: solving for y=mx+b (linear equation)

m(slope)=y2-y1/x2-x1
(x1= 1, y1=-8),(x2=-1,y2=-1)
M=-1-(-8)/-1-1=7/-2= -7/2

To find the b(y-intercept),use one of the coordinates and plug it into y=mx+b, I will use (x=1,y=-8): -8=-7/2(1)+b

-8/1=-7/2(1)+b/1 -divide the 1 to cancel it and bring it to the other side.

-8+7/2=-7/2+7/2+b -add the 7/2 to cancel it and bring it to the other side.

-9/2=b -b is now isolated and is solved.

So, that’s how you get y=-7/2x-9/2
