Answer: 13 months

Step-by-step explanation:

I made these into equations first.

40 (initial fee) + 65x (x is the number of months) = total cost

170 (initial fee) + 55x (x is the number of months) = total cost

There are two ways to go about this.

1. Put it into a graphing calculator (or a site like desmos) and see where the lines intersect (the easiest way)

2. If you don't have access to either of those, do the old guess and check by plugging in numbers of months until you get your desired answer.

What is the value of y in this system of equations: 3x + y = 9 y = –4x + 10 ?
Ahat [919]
<span>3x + y = 9 (I)
</span><span>y = –4x + 10 (II)
------------------------
</span>\left \{ {{3x + y = 9 } \atop {y = -4x + 10 }} \right.

Pass the incognito "4x" to the first term, changing the signal when changing sides.
<span>-------------------------
simplify by (-1)
</span>\left \{ {{3x + y = 9.(-1)} \atop {4x + y = 10 }} \right.<span>

-------------------------
</span>\left \{ {{- 3x - \diagup\!\!\!\!y =-9} \atop {4x + \diagup\!\!\!\!y = 10}} \right.     &#10;
<span>
-------------------------
</span>\left \{ {{- 3x = - 9} \atop {4x = 10}} \right.<span>

-----------
</span>\boxed{x = 1}<span><span>

</span></span><span>Substitute in equation (I) to find the value of "Y".

</span>3x + y = 9 (I)
3*(1) + y = 9
3 + y = 9
y = 9 - 3
\boxed{y = 6}

Answer:
\boxed{\boxed{ \left \ {{x=1} \atop {y=6}} \right. }}

Answer:

m=7w+4

Step-by-step explanation:

<u>Linear Modeling</u>

It consist is setting up a linear relationship between two variables, given some experimental data. Only 2 points are needed to set up the equation of a line, but if more than 2 points are used, then the result should use statistical approaches like linear regression to find the best-fit line.

For the question at hand, Marty practices his piano lessons 11 minutes the week #1. It provides the first point (1,11). He practices 25 minutes per day on the third week. It gives us another point (3,25). This is enough to find the equation of a line. The general formula for a line, having two points (m1,w1) (m2,w2) is

\displaystyle m-m_1=\frac{m_2-m_1}{w_2-w_1}(w-w_1)

Let's plug in our values

\displaystyle m-11=\frac{25-11}{3-1}(w-1)

Simplifying:

m-11=7w-7

\boxed{m=7w+4}
