2) Line segment MK has endpoints at (2, 3) and (5, ?4). Segment M'K' is the reflection of MK over the y-axis. Which statement de
Marianna [84]

Answer:

Option C -M'K' is the same length as MK

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : Line segment MK has endpoints at (2, 3) and (5,4)

               M'K' is the reflection of MK over the y-axis

By definition of reflection: reflection of point (x,y) across the the y-axis is the point (-x,y)

which implies M'K' has end points (-2,3) and (-5,4)

Now, we find the length of MK

let (x_1,y_1)=(2,3)\\\\(x_2,y_2)=(5,4)

d=\sqrt{(x_2-x_1)^2+(y_2-y_1)^2}

⇒ d=\sqrt{(2-5)^2+(4-3)^2}

⇒d=\sqrt{9+1}

⇒d=\sqrt{10}   ....(1)

Now, we find the length of M'K'

let (x_1^{'},y_1^{'})=(-2,3)\\\\(x_2^{'},y_2^{'})=(-5,4)

d^{'}=\sqrt{(x_2^{'}-x_1^{'})^2+(y_2^{'}-y_1^{'})^2}

⇒ d^{'}=\sqrt{(-2+5)^2+(3-4)^2}

⇒d^{'}=\sqrt{9+1}

⇒d^{'}=\sqrt{10} .....(2)

from (1) and (2) we simply show that the length of MK and M'K' is equal

we can also refer the figure attached for reflection of MK and M'K'

therefore, Option C is correct

Construct a polynomial function with the following properties: fifth degree, 4 is a zero of multiplicity 3, −4 is the only other
Nonamiya [84]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Hello,

degree 5

4 is a zero of multiplicity 3 -> (x-4)^3 is a factor

-4 is the only other zero, so the multiplicity is 5-3=2 -> (x+4)^2 is a factor

leading coefficient is 4 so we can write

\boxed{4(x-4)^3(x+4)^2}

If there is something that you do not understand or you are blocked somewhere let us know what / where.

Thank you.

Hello, Can someone please explain on how to do this? thank you!
Marrrta [24]
Steps:

1) determine the domain

2) determine the extreme limits of the function

3) determine critical points (where the derivative is zero)

4) determine the intercepts with the axis

5) do a table

6) put the data on a system of coordinates

7) graph: join the points with the best smooth curve

Solution:

1) domain

The logarithmic function is defined for positive real numbers, then you need to state x - 3 > 0

=> x > 3 <-------- domain

2) extreme limits of the function

Limit log (x - 3) when x → ∞ = ∞

Limit log (x - 3) when x → 3+ = - ∞ => the line x = 3 is a vertical asymptote

3) critical points

dy / dx = 0 => 1 / x - 3 which is never true, so there are not critical points (not relative maxima or minima)

4) determine the intercepts with the axis

x-intercept: y = 0 => log (x - 3) = 0 => x - 3 = 1 => x = 4

y-intercept: The function never intercepts the y-axis because x cannot not be 0.

5) do a table

 x                          y = log (x - 3)

limit x → 3+            - ∞

3.000000001        log (3.000000001 -3) = -9

3.0001                  log (3.0001 - 3) = - 4

3.1                       log (3.1 - 3) = - 1

4                          log (4 - 3) = 0

13                       log (13 - 3) = 1

103                     log (103 - 3) = 10

lim x → ∞             ∞

Now, with all that information you can graph the function: put the data on the coordinate system and join the points with a smooth curve.

In 1995, Hazel was 25 years older than her son Gary. In 2022, Hazel's age will be 150% of Gary's age. How old were they in 1995?
Kitty [74]
So find the difference between 1995 and 2022 to make it easier
2022-1995=27

so the rephrased question is
when hazel was x years old, she was 25 years older than son gary who was y old at that time (equation is x is 25 more than y or x=25+y)
in 27 years, (this means x+27 and y+27) hazel's age will be 150% of gary's age (x+27= 150% of y+27)
percent means parts out of 100  so 150%=150/100=15/10=1.5
'of' in math means multiply so
the equations are
x=25+y
x+27=1.5(y+27)
subsitute 25+y for x in second euation
25+y+27=1.5(y+27)
add like terms
y+52=1.5(y+27)
I personally dislike decimals to multiply both sides by 2 to make 2 0.5's or 1 (you are technically supposed to distribute or divide both sides by 1.5) so
2y+104=3(y+27)
distribute
2y+104=3y+81
subtract 2y from both sides
104=y+81
subtract 81 from both sides
23=y
subsitute
x=25+y
x=25+23
x=48

Hazel was 48 and Gary was 23 in the year of 1995
