In a pen of goats and chickens, there are 40 heads and 150 feet. How many goats and chickens are in the pen?
s2008m [1.1K]

Hey there!!

A chicken has 1 head and 2 feet . A goat has 1 head and 4 feet

For heads, total = 40

Let us take the number of chickens as ' x ' and goats as ' y '

x + y = 40 ------------- ( 1 )

2x + 4y = 150 ----------- ( 2 )

Multiply the first equation with 2

2x + 2y = 80

2x + 4y = 150

Subtract the first equation from the first

2y = 70

y = 35

Number of goats = 35

substitute this in other equation

x + y = 40

x + 35 = 40

x = 5

Number of chickens are 4

Hope it helps!

Find the general solution of the following ODE: y' + 1/t y = 3 cos(2t), t > 0.
Margarita [4]

Answer:

y = 3sin2t/2 - 3cos2t/4t + C/t

Step-by-step explanation:

The differential equation y' + 1/t y = 3 cos(2t) is a first order differential equation in the form y'+p(t)y = q(t) with integrating factor I = e^∫p(t)dt

Comparing the standard form with the given differential equation.

p(t) = 1/t and q(t) = 3cos(2t)

I = e^∫1/tdt

I = e^ln(t)

I = t

The general solution for first a first order DE is expressed as;

y×I = ∫q(t)Idt + C where I is the integrating factor and C is the constant of integration.

yt = ∫t(3cos2t)dt

yt = 3∫t(cos2t)dt ...... 1

Integrating ∫t(cos2t)dt using integration by part.

Let u = t, dv = cos2tdt

du/dt = 1; du = dt

v = ∫(cos2t)dt

v = sin2t/2

∫t(cos2t)dt = t(sin2t/2) + ∫(sin2t)/2dt

= tsin2t/2 - cos2t/4 ..... 2

Substituting equation 2 into 1

yt = 3(tsin2t/2 - cos2t/4) + C

Divide through by t

y = 3sin2t/2 - 3cos2t/4t + C/t

Hence the general solution to the ODE is y = 3sin2t/2 - 3cos2t/4t + C/t

Suppose a water tank in the shape of a right circular cylinder is thirty feet high and eight feet in diameter. a) How much sheet
Zanzabum

Answer:

755.98 ft^2

Step-by-step explanation:

Height of the Cylinder= 30 feet

Diameter = 8 feet

Radius= Diameter/2 = 8/2 = 4 feet

The Amount of Metal Sheet used in constructing the tank is the Total  Surface Area of the Tank.

Total Surface Area of a Cylinder =

=2\pi r(r+h)\\=2*\pi*4(4+30)\\=8*\pi*30=\\=240\pi\\=755.98 ft^2
