Problem 7

Time is always an independent variable because time marches on doing its own thing without depending on external forces, or other people/things. Instead, other variables depend on time. In this case, the distance d depends on the independent variable t for time.

If the time goes up by 1 hour, then the distance variable goes up by 3 miles. In short, that tells us his speed is 3 mph.

Answer: Choice A) independent = time; dependent = distance

Problem 8

Everywhere you see an x, replace it with 9. Then use PEMDAS to simplify

f(x) = 5x - 9

f(9) = 5(9) - 9 ... x replaced with 9

f(9) = 45 - 9

f(9) = 36

When Jonas does his math homework, he spends an average of 2 minutes on each problem. Last night he spent 1.6 hours on his non-m
alexgriva [62]

Answer:

C.

1.8 hours

Step-by-step explanation:

total homework time = math homework time + non math homework time

math homework time = 5 problems * 2 minutes/problem

                                   = 10 minutes

                                     = 10 minutes * 1hr/60 minutes = .167 hrs

non math homework time = 1.6 hours

total homework time = math homework time + non math homework time

total homework time = .167 + 1.6

total homework time = 1.77 hrs

rounding

total homework time = 1.8 hrs

Norma-Jean [14]

The hourly wage increase each employee receives each year depends on their number of years of service. Every three years of service means an increase of $0.50 per hour. So, employees that have been with the company for less than three years can expect to receive an increase of $0.50 per hour. Employees that have been with the company for at least three years, but less than six years can expect an increase of $1.00 per hour. Employees that have been with the company for at six years, but less than nine years, receive an increase of $1.50 per hour. And, employees of at least nine years, but less than twelve years receive an increase of $2.00 per hour.
