Answer:

16. f(y-2) = 2(y-2)²-5

= 2(y²-4y+4)-5

= 2y²-8y+8-5

= 2y²-8y+3

17. f(a+h)-f(a) = 2(a+h)²-5-(2a²-5)

= 2(a²+2ah+h²)-5-2a²+5

= 2a²+4ah+h²-2a²

= h²+4ah

What is the value of x?
Morgarella [4.7K]

Answer

The value of x is 6.2 units .

Step-by-step explanation:

Now by using the pythagorean theorem

Hypotenuse² =  Perpendicular² + Base²

Now in the Δ ABD

As given

DB² = DA² + AB²

As given

DB = 13 units

AB = 9 units

Putting values in the above

13² = 9²+ DA²

169 - 81 = DA²

88 = DA²

DA = \sqrt{88}

In ΔABC

AB² = AC² + CB²

(As given AB = 9 units , CB = x)

9² = AC² + x²

AC ² = 81 - x²

Now in ΔADC.

AD² = AC² + DC ²

As

AC ² = 81 - x²

DC = 13 - x

AD = \sqrt{88}

(\sqrt{88})^{2}=81-x^{2} + (13-x)^{2}

(By using the formula (a + b)² = a² + b² + 2ab )

88=81-x^{2} + 13^{2}-2\times 13\times x + x^{2}

88=81-x^{2} + 13^{2}-26x+ x^{2}

88-81 - 169 = -26x

88-250 =-26x

-162 = - 26x

x = \frac{162}{26}

x = 6.2 (Approx)

Therefore the value of x is 6.2 units .

The cost of 3 pizzas and 4 sandwiches at the deli is $68. The cost of 3 pizzas and 7 sandwiches is $92. Find the cost of one piz
Alex
3p+4s=68 and 3p+7s=92 we can rearrange equation 1 to let 's' be the subject : s=(68-3p)/4. We can then sub this into equation 2 so that there is only one unknown: 3p+7(68-3p)/4=92. Then takeaway p from both sides: 7(68-3p)/4=92-3p. Then multiply by 4: 7(68-3p)= 4(92-3p). The use distributive law on both sides: 476-21p=368-12p. Then rearrange to get 108=9p and the divide by 9 and you will get p=12 Hope this helps!!
