What are the differences between balloon framing and platform framing? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each? Why ha

s platform faming become the method of choice?
Why is little added fire stopping required in platform framing?

Answer:

Difference : Balloon framing go through from foundation to top floor while Platform do not

advantages and disadvantages

Balloon framing : It has less vertical shrinkage ( disadvantage )

platform framing : It has more vertical shrinkage and fire stops ( advantage )

platform framing : It is easier and safer to use

Reason for platform framing :

Due to these advantages Platform framing has become a better choice

Little added fire stopping is required in platform framing because of double tap plate present which can act as as a fire stop

Steel beam/ glue laminated wood beam is preferred at foundation level because wood beam under the ground will most likely shrink over time

Explanation:

Differences : Balloon framing a form of building houses using a special kind of timber construction its studs start from the foundation and go to all the way to the last floor while in Platform framing the studs are interrupted by floor platforms ( i.e. they do not go through like in Balloon framing )

advantages and disadvantages

Balloon framing : It has less vertical shrinkage ( disadvantage )

platform framing : It has more vertical shrinkage and fire stops ( advantage )

platform framing : It is easier and safer to use

Reason for platform framing :

Due to these advantages Platform framing has become a better choice

Little added fire stopping is required in platform framing because of double tap plate present which can act as as a fire stop

Steel beam/ glue laminated wood beam is preferred at foundation level because wood beam under the ground will most likely shrink over time

A tennis player swings her 1000 g racket with a speed of 10 m/s. She hits a 60 g tennis ball that was approaching her at a speed
Mashutka [201]

(a)

consider the motion of the tennis ball. lets assume the velocity of the tennis ball going towards the racket as positive and velocity of tennis ball going away from the racket as negative.

m = mass of the tennis ball = 60 g = 0.060 kg

v₀ = initial velocity of the tennis ball before being hit by racket = 20 m/s

v = final velocity of the tennis ball after being hit by racket = - 39 m/s

ΔP = change in momentum of the ball

change in momentum of the ball is given as

ΔP = m (v - v₀)

inserting the above values

ΔP = (0.060) (- 39 - 20)

ΔP = - 3.54 kgm/s

hence , magnitude of change in momentum : 3.54 kgm/s

Is a measure of how closely packed together the particles of matter are in a specific volume
Mnenie [13.5K]
