Cannot see all of the first question but for the paint question: if he’s got 1 1/3 gallons and 3/6 gallons already, 3/6 can be reduced to 1/2 then added to the 1 1/3 to give him a total of 1 3/4 gallons. 4 1/2 - 1 3/4 means he’ll need 2 and 3/4 gallons.
