Complete Question

A stationary 10 kg object is located on a table near the surface of the earth. The coefficient of kinetic friction between the surfaces is 0.2. A horizontal force of 40 N is applied to the object. Find the acceleration of the object.

According to Newtons second law;

\sum F_x = ma_x

F_m - F_f = ma_x

Fm is the applied force

Ff is the frictional force

m is the mass

a is the acceleration

Substitute the given values

40N - nmg = 10a

40 - 0.2(10)(9.8) = 10a

40 - 19.6 = 10a

20.4 = 10a

a = 20.4/10

a = 2.04m/s²

Hence the acceleration of the object is 2.04m/s²

How does kinetic energy affect the stopping distance of a small vehicle compared to a large vehicle?
zhannawk [14.2K]
The equation for kinetic energy is KE=1/2mv^2
So if the small vehicle AND the large vehicle both had the same speed, the large vehicle would have more kinetic energy since it has greater mass, resulting in a much more larger stopping distance than the smaller car.

True or False: If the initial speed of an object is zero, then the initial position of the object must be the origin. Explain
lions [1.4K]

Answer:

False

Explanation:

It is not necessary, that when the initial speed of the object is zero then it must be at origin.

It may be the object starts motion from the left of origin.

If object A has more mass than object B, what will object A need to accelerate at the same rate as object B?
Leni [432]

Answer:

More force

Explanation:

Object A has more mass than object B

 For object A to accelerate at the same rate as object B, it will need more force.

According to Newton's second law of motion "the net force on a body is the product of its mass and acceleration".

 Net force = mass x acceleration

Now, if a body has more mass and needs to accelerate at the same rate as another one with a lower mass, the force on it must be increased.

an object of mass 8 kg is whriled round in a vertical circle of radius 2m with a constant speed of 6m/s .Then the maximum and mi
algol13

Answer:

Maximum Tension=224N

Minimum tension= 64N

Explanation:

Given

mass =8 kg

constant speed = 6m/s .

g=10m/s^2

Maximum Tension= [(mv^2/ r) + (mg)]

Minimum tension= [(mv^2/ r) - (mg)]

Then substitute the values,

Maximum Tension= [8 × 6^2)/2 +(8×9.8)] = 224N

Minimum tension= [8 × 6^2)/2 -(8×9.8)]

=64N

Hence, Minimum tension and maximum Tension are =64N and 2224N respectively
