The passage below is an excerpt from Robert Owen's A New View of Society (1813-1816). Use the passage to answer the following qu

estion:
Train any population rationally, and they will be rational. Furnish honest and useful employments to those so trained, and such employments they will greatly prefer to dishonest or injurious occupations. Why does having a life tenure in office for a Supreme Court Justice make them an apolitical body?
lina2011 [118]

The answer is D.  This is because we want the Supreme Court Justices to be impartial.  They should be allowed to go against the President or Congress without fear of not being reelected.

How did geography influence Greece’s economy and military technology ?
tankabanditka [31]

Greece is a crossroad of cultures, it is in Europe, but also it is near Egypt and the East. So it had a big exchange of ideas and philosophy, it developped science and trade, and being surrounded by the sea, it developped maritime skills (military and trading fleet). This lasted form antiquity to modern history.

Why was the battle of Midway such an important battle in the war for the Pacific? Explain your answer.
Hoochie [10]

Answer: It effectively ended Japanese Naval Supremacy.

Explanation:

Before the Battle of Midway, the Japanese were a very formidable force in the Pacific. Their navy boasted of several aircraft carriers which allowed them to sink ships with planes and they used this to devastating effect against the Americans at Pearl Harbor and the Australians.

The Japanese knew that if they could capture Midway, they would get the opportunity to negotiate favorably with the Americans and the Americans knew they could not lose Midway due to its strategic location.

The Americans broke the Japanese code for the battle and figured out their plans and used this to inflict a heavy loss on the Japanese by sinking 4 of their aircraft carriers. The Japanese Navy never recovered from this and for the rest of the war, they were on the defensive.
