Well you can substitute-2 to x and -6 to x and it it works then yes
But in this problem it's no because
-6<7(-2)+8
-6<-14+8
-6<-6
So -6 is not smaller than -6

When placed end to end, three red rods are 2 cm longer than than 2 blue rods. Three blue rods are 2 cm longer than four red rods
Oxana [17]

Answer:

Red = 10 cm, blue = 14 cm

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the length of each red rod be r and each blue rod be b

Then we have:

  • 3r - 2b = 2
  • 3b - 4r = 2

Multiply the first equation by 3 and the second one by 2:

  • 9r - 6b = 6
  • 6b - 8r = 4

Add the equations to eliminate one of variables:

  • 9r - 8r = 6 + 4
  • r = 10 cm

Find the value of b:

  • 3*10 -2b = 2
  • 30 - 2 = 2b
  • 2b = 28
  • b = 14 cm

Give one example of when you would. use the friendly numbers strategy to subtract .Explain why ?
lord [1]
Say you were solving 27 + 19. If you were planning on using the friendly numbers strategy, you'd look at the first addend, 27, and determine that the closest "friendly number" here is thirty, which you'd get by adding 3. From there, you can jump to the next friendly number, forty, by adding another 10. So far you'd've added 13, and you'd need another 6 for that too add up to 19, your second addend. After adding 3, 10, and 6 to 27, you'd find your sum, or "final answer"- 46.

I hope this was what you were looking for!

An equation of a line through (-1, 4) which is perpendicular to the line y = 4x + 1 has slope and y-intercept
Assoli18 [71]

Answer:

The answer to your question is   y = -1/4x + 15/4

Step-by-step explanation:

Data

P (-1, 4)

⊥ y = 4x + 1

Process

1.- Find the slope of the line given

       y = 4x + 1

slope = 4

2.- Find the slope of the new line

     slope 2 = -1/4

3.- Find the equation of the line

       y - y1 = m(x - x1)

Substitution

       y - 4 = -1/4(x + 1)

Simplification

       y - 4 = -1/4x - 1/4

       y = -1/4x - 1/4 + 4

       y = -1/4x - 1/4 + 16/4

Result

       y = -1/4x + 15/4
