Democratic Republicans wanted to protect the rights of the working class. Federalists saw industry and manufacturing as the best means of economic self sufficiency. During the War of 1812, the Federalists didn’t agree with the war because it would damage their trade with European countries. Most Americans saw the War of 1812 as a victory over Britain so by 1816 the Federalist party died out.

The colonists believed that they were being unjustly taxed by Britain and therefore had reason to revolt to overturn this injustice and others they felt were being imposed on them at the hands of Britain.
