The river will increase Beijing’s water supply, which is currently at risk of not meeting the city’s needs. This increase will help to soften the effect of droughts.

The downside of the new river is that it may disrupt natural areas, including habitats for plants and animals. The project will also be expensive and may take up space that could be used for homes, businesses, or agriculture.
