One atom will give electrons to another atom to fill its shell, this is an ionic bond. The atom giving away electrons becomes positive and the one recieving electrons becomes negative.

To solve this problem it is necessary to apply the concepts related to heat exchange in the vegetable and water.

By definition the exchange of heat is given by

Q =mc\Delta T

where,

m = mass

c = specific heat

\Delta T = Change in temperature

Therefore the total heat exchange is given as

\Delta Q = Q_w+Q_v

\Delta Q = m_wc_w(T_i-T_f)+m_vc_v(T_i-T_f)

Our values are given as,

Total mass is M_T = 200lb ,however the mass of solid vegetable and water is given as,

m_v= 0.4*200lb = 80lb

m_w=0.6*200lb=120lb

T_i = 183\°F\\T_f = 22\°F\\c_w = 1Btu/lbF\\c_v = 0.24Btu/lbF

Replacing at our equation we have,

\Delta Q = m_wc_w(T_i-T_f)+m_vc_v(T_i-T_f)

\Delta Q = (120)(1)(183-22)+(80)(0.24)(183-22)

\Delta Q = 22411.2Btu

Therefore the heat removed is 22411.2 Btu

So,the point is at displacement point the kinetic energy of bob is 0 and when it is released it will have maximum kinetic energy at P. It will hit the box and all he kinetic energy of bob will get transferred into driving force(F.D) of box. Now kinetic energy = Force * displacement.

K.E= 0.5 m V^2= F.D * Lsin Θ.

Find F.D

F.D = (0.5 m V^2) /  Lsin Θ.

Now for the box, F.D - Friction = m(box) a.

Friction = F.D + m(box) a.

Find the accelaration of box from an equation of motion. ( u=0, find displacement of box,s,time taken and so on)

U get the friction. Now,

coeff of friction = µ = friction/ reaction.

Note that reaction here = weight of box= m(box) g.   g= acc of free fall= 9.81.

When the rock is dropped, it only contains Gravitational Potential Energy, and when it hits the ground, it contains Kinetic Energy.

So:

PE = KE
\large\boxed{mgh = \frac{1}{2}mv^2}

We can rearrange to solve for velocity. Cancel out mass and solve.


gh = \frac{1}{2}v^2\\\\2gh = v^2\\\\v = \sqrt{2gh}

Plug in the givens:


v = \sqrt{2(9.8)(4)} = \boxed{8.85 \frac{m}{s}}
