Being able to understand the relationship between DNA, mRNA, tRNA, ribosomes and proteins, is necessary for any researcher inter

ested in gene therapy. Gene therapy is dedicated to correcting genetic defects by replacing mutated genes with wildtype versions. This can include complete removal and replacement of the entire gene (knock-outs or knock-ins) or removal of only the actual mutated nucleotides. Sickle Cell Disease is an example of a single-point mutation: GAG becomes GTG, which codes for a new amino acid. One would only need to replace a single base to correct the disorder making it very amenable to gene therapy. The mutant sickle cell allele is called HbS (for sickled hemoglobin) while the wt allele is HbA. Philippe Kasongo, a masters student from Oxford is studying for an oral exam on gene therapy, and has an especial interest in the disorder since he comes from the Democratic Republic of Congo where Sickle Cell has a historical high rate of occurrence due to the prevalence of malaria. Oral exams are a feature of certain British schools where students form a line and have to answer a series of questions from their proctor rather than take a written exam. Should we try oral exams at Lehman this semester

Answer:

Yes.

Explanation:

Yes, we should try oral exams at Lehman this semester in order to fulfill the research on gene therapy done by the masters student. Test is to evaluate the performance of the student in the class, it can be taken by both the methods i.e. through written or through oral exams. Both have the same significance because both evaluate the performance of the students so we can try oral exams instead of written exams at Lehman this semester to help the masters student in his research.

What do the eras of the geologic time scale represent?
Rashid [163]

Answer:

time between eras and biodiversity that exists on each period of the geological time

Explanation:

A geological era is a formal geochronological unit of the geological time scale that represents the time corresponding to the duration of an era, the equivalent chronostratigraphic unit comprising all the rocks formed at that time. The ages are one of the major divisions of geological time, they are subdivisions of the eons and they are divided into periods.

The three eras of the Phanerozoic eon variables, simplifying much, the three classic divisions of the history of the life of the planet:

1. Paleozoic represents the "age of fish"

2. Mesozoic the "age of reptiles"

3. Cenozoic the "age of mammals."

Traditionally they had been referred to as Primary Age, Secondary Era, Tertiary Era and Quaternary Era (currently the Quaternary is another period of the Cenozoic era). The passage from one era to another is defined by events of global mass extinctions, which entail a significant renewal of the biota of the planet, both marine and terrestrial; thus the passage from the Paleozoic to the Mesozoic is marked by the mass extinction of the Permian-Triassic and the passage from the Mesozoic to the Cenozoic by the mass extinction of the Cretaceous-Tertiary.

Watson and Crick's model of DNA replication is called
alex41 [277]

Answer:

(B) semiconservative.

Explanation:

According to the model proposed by Watson and Crick, the DNA molecule consists of two polynucleotide chains arranged on a helix around an imaginary axis, rotating to the right (a double helix). That is, the DNA molecule is in the shape of a spiral staircase, in which the "steps" are made up of nucleotide nitrogen bases and the "handrails" are covalently linked phosphate and sugar - so it is said that DNA is shaped like a helical ribbon. Also according to Watson and Crick DNA replication is semi-conservative, because each strand of DNA will give rise to another strand that will be complementary to its nucleotides.
