Explain briefly how the following phenomena happen on Earth, relating your answers to the theory of plate tectonics
Elenna [48]

Answer:

  1. Earthquakes occurs due to the sudden shaking of the earth, produced due to the collision of plates.
  2. Continental drift is the theory that describes how continents moves from one place to another with respect to a fixed point. Plate tectonic movement is responsible for this drift.
  3. When two continental plate collides, sandwich pattern forms, which leads to the mountain building processes. For example, the Himalaya.
  4. When collision takes place between an oceanic plate and a continental plate, the oceanic plate being more denser gets subducted below the comparatively less dense continental plate, producing volcanoes, where extensive volcanic eruptions takes place.
  1. When two oceanic plate collides, the denser oceanic plate gets subducted beneath the less denser one, thereby creates an island arc or  chain of island. For example, the Hawaiian island chain.

All the above phenomenon are directly related to the plate tectonic movement.

The photometer is a device that converts light to voltage which is read out by the digital multimeter (DMM). This is due to the
dimaraw [331]

Answer:

It converts light into electric current.

Explanation:

The first line of the description says that the photometer is a device that converts light to voltage. if the voltage can be measured then current flowing through it can be calculated by Ohms law V=IR.

<em>Hence the photometer converts light to electric current.</em>

The photometer is used to measure the strength of electromagnetic radiation falling on it and operate within the range of ultraviolet ,visible and infrared spectrum.

It converts light to electric current using photodiode (pn junction),photoresistor and photmultiplier.

How much charge can be placed on a capacitor with air between the plates before it breaks down if the area of each plate is 4.00
klio [65]

Explanation:

Let us assume that the separation of plate be equal to d and the area of plates is 9 \times 10^{-4} m^{2}. As the capacitance of capacitor is given as follows.

            C = \frac{\epsilon_{o}A}{d}

It is known that the dielectric strength of air is as follows.

               E = 3 \times 10^{6} V/m

Expression for maximum potential difference is that the capacitor can with stand is as follows.

                       dV = E × d

And, maximum charge that can be placed on the capacitor is as follows.

               Q = CV

                   = \frac{\epsilon_{o} A}{d} \times E \times d

                   = \epsilon_{o}AE

                   = 8.85 \times 10^{-12} \times 3 \times 10^{6} \times 4 \times 10^{-4}

                   = 1.062 \times 10^{-8} C

or,                = 10.62 nC

Thus, we can conclude that charge on capacitor is 10.62 nC.
