Don scored 10 points higher than Rick on a test. Jackie scored 8 points less than Rick and Jared scored 3 points less than Jacki

e. The total score of all 4 of them combined was 315.
(A) Write an equation to represent this situation. (Define the variables you are using)

(B) Solve the equation and list everyone's score.

(C) Show how you will check your answer to see if you are correct.

I used R for Rick since I am putting everything in Rick's case. The equation would be (R+10)+(R-8)+(R-11)=315.
Once you add the same terms you end with 4R-9=315
You add 9 to both sides
4R=324
Then divide
R=81
For Don, since his is ten point higher, his would be 91.
Rick is 81.
Jackie would be 73 since it is 8 points less.
And Jared would be 70 since it is 3 point less.
Check by adding; 81+91+73+70=315
Tell me if this helps.

How do you do this math problem
AveGali [126]

Answer:

\frac{2}{1}*\frac{1}{2}=\frac{2*1}{1*2}=\frac{2}{2}=1

The benefit of the multiplicative inverse property is when you are dealing with fractional coefficients, you can use the property to solve for the variable.

Step-by-step explanation:

The multiplicative inverse property allows us to take the reciprocal (opposite) of a number and multiply it by the original value to obtain the number '1'.  We know that they are equivalent because when we multiply fractions, we multiply the numerators and denominators straight across:

\frac{2}{1}*\frac{1}{2}=\frac{2*1}{1*2}=\frac{2}{2}=1

The benefit of this property is in getting rid of fractions in an equation.  For example, take the following equation:

4 = \frac{1}{2}x

I can solve for 'x' by using the multiplicative inverse property and multiplying both sides of the equation by \frac{2}{1}:

\frac{2}{1}*4=(\frac{2}{1})\frac{1}{2}x or 8 = x

A company is expanding its building area from 14,000 square feet to 19,880 square feet. What is the percentage increase of the a
Stella [2.4K]
I remember I had a lot of trouble with this in geometry! This is a matter of ratios and division. You can grab a calculator and divide 19,880 by 14,000 (because the building increased, and you’re seeing how much bigger it is than the original). We can also do it by hand...

19880/14000
1988/1400 (divide by 10)
994/700 (divide by 2)
142/100 (divide by 7)
142% is your answer. The 100% implies you made another building, so the real answer is that the building size increased by 42% (since you already have the 14000 sqft building)

X Y. Determine whether y varies directly with x If so find the constant vartion k and write the equation
kirza4 [7]

Answer:

6.4 = k*4

k = 6.4 / 4

k = 1.60

11.2 = k * 7

k = 11.2 / 7

k = 1.60

16 = k * 10

k = 16/10

k = 1.60

20.8 = k * 13

k = 20.8/13

k = 1.60

Step-by-step explanation:

hope this helps! so sorry if it doesn't try not to stress over school please<3
