Why would Germany trying to form an alliance with Mexico be considered a threat to the United States?

Germany had a terrifying diplomacy,and the United States wanted little to do with the European conflicts. Germany wanted to strike terror into the usa,so they offered Mexico a deal for them to get the territory they had lost to the usa in the late 19th century.
