A forklift will last for only 2 more years. It costs $5,000 a year to maintain. For $20,000 you can buy a new lift that can last

for 10 years and should require maintenance costs of only $2,000 a year. a-1. Calculate the equivalent cost of owning and operating the forklift if the discount rate is 4% per year. (Do not round intermediate calculations. Round your answer to 2 decimal places.) a-2. Should you replace the forklift

Answer:

The equivalent cost of owning and operating the forklift is $4,465.82

We should replace the forklift.

Explanation:

The Equivalent annual cost can be calculated using the following formula

Equivalent annual cost = PV of cost / Annuity factor

Old forklift

PV of Cost = Annual cost x 2 years Annuity factor at 4% / 2 years Annuity factor at 4%

Hence

PV of cost = Annual cost = $5,000

New forklift

10 years Annuity factor at 4% = 1 - ( 1 + 4%)^-10 )/4% = 8.11090

PV of cost = ( Annual Cost x 10 years Annuity factor at 4% ) + Initial cost

PV of cost = ( $2,000 x 8.11090 ) + $20,000

PV of cost = 16,221.79 + $20,000

PV of cost = 36,221.79

Placing values in the formula

Equivalent annual cost = $36,221.79 / 8.11090

Equivalent annual cost = $4,465.82

As the equivalent annual cost of the new lift is lower than the the old one, we should replace the forklift

kakasveta [241]

Answer:

budgeted  manufacturing overhead=$2871

Explanation:

Direct labour hours= budgeted production × standard hours per unit

                            = 870× 1/4 hour=217.5  hours

Direct labour cost =  217.5 ×    $12 =$2610

Manufacturing overhead = Overhead absorption rate × direct labour cost

                                       = 110%×2610 =2,871

Budgeted  manufacturing overhead=$2871

On September 1, Walker Company received $30,900 for six months of rent in advance. On September 1, Walker Company credited Rent
erma4kov [3.2K]

Answer:

As per accrual concept of accounting, income is recorded when it is earned and not when cash is received.

An income which is not yet earned i.e services for which are yet to be provided and yet cash is received against it in advance, such an advance receipt represents liability since services are yet to be provided.

The entry passed by Walker Company upon receipt being

Cash A/C                                                Dr. $30,900

     Rent Revenue A/C                                                $30,900

(Being six month rent received in advance recorded)

By Dec 31, Walker company has provided services for 3 months out of 6 months which meant half of the rent recorded as income upon receipt above, remained unearned as on Dec 31.

The Adjusting entry as on Dec 31, would be,

Rent Revenue A/C                                 Dr. $ 15,450

     To Unearned Rent Income                                  $15,450

(Being unearned rent income recorded)

This amount of $15,450 represents the rent received in advance which relates to three months against which services are yet to be provided i.e due.
