Answer:

$3,290,000

Explanation:

Calculation to determine total stockholders' equity of Newton as of December 31, 20X9

200,000 shares issued for $15$3,000,000

(200,000 shares* $15)

Add Net income $750,000

Less Dividends ($380,000)

Less Purchased 12,000 treasury shares at $12 ($144,000)

(12,000 treasury shares*$12)

Add Decrease in treasury stock account $96,000

(8,000 shares *$12)

Less Decrease in additional paid-in capital ($32,000)

[(8,000 shares *$12)-(8,000 shares *$8])

Total Stockholders’ equity $3,290,000

Therefore total stockholders' equity of Newton as of December 31, 20X9 is $3,290,000

Your supermarket is trying to determine how many meatloaf dinners should be produced on Monday. The Monday demand for meatloaf d
Alecsey [184]

Answer:

The recommended production quantity is that which maximizes profit.

<em>Quantity 130</em>

<em />

Explanation:

Quantity to produce is the problem here. Remember that this is one of the fundamental questions in the discipline of Economics.

- What to produce?     - For whom to produce?

- How to produce?      - In what quantity?

Possible Production Quantities:

100,  110,  120, and 130

Mean Demand = 100

Standard Deviation = 20

Lowest possible demand = 100 - 20 = 80units

Highest possible demand = 100 + 20 = 120units

<u>* Solve, using the mean demand for each quantity level. Assume also that on every Monday, the minimum possible quantity is what is purchased. That's the safest assumption anyway.</u>

<u />

FOR QUANTITY 100,

Revenue = 7×100 = $700      Direct cost = 2×100 = $200

Indirect cost = 0.6×20 = $12          Total cost = 200 + 12 = $212

PROFIT = 700 - 212 = $488

FOR QUANTITY 110,

Revenue = 7×110 = $770        Direct cost = 2×110 = $220

Indirect cost = 0.6×30 = $18           Total cost = 220 + 18 = $238

PROFIT = 770 - 238 = $532

FOR QUANTITY 120,

Revenue = 7×120 = $840        Direct cost = 2×120 = $240

Indirect cost = 0.6×40 = $24           Total cost = $264

PROFIT = 840 - 264 = $576

FOR QUANTITY 130,

Revenue = 7×130 = $910          Direct cost = 2×130 = $260

Indirect cost = 0.6×50 = $30            Total cost = $290

PROFIT = 910 - 290 = $620

<em>Remember, the base assumption is that only the minimum quantity of 80units is bought each Monday. This is the only way to account for wastage; which costs 0.6 dollar per unit. So, the more the quantity produced, the greater the likelihood of wastage.</em>

Suppose in 2016, you purchase a house built in 2003. Which of the following would be included in the gross domestic product for
Katen [24]

Answer:

1) C) The value of the services of the real estate agent

2) B) $6,400

Explanation:

First, there are two questions lumped together as one

Question 1:  Suppose in 2016, you purchase a house built in 2003. Which of the following would be included in the gross domestic product for 2016?

A) The value of the house in 2013

B)The value of the house in 2016 minus depreciation

C) The value of the services of the real estate agent

4) The value of the house in 2016

Question 2: Suppose that a simple economy produces only four goods and services shoes. DVDs, tomatoes, and ketchup. Assume one half of the tomatoes are used in making the ketchup and the other half of the tomatoes are purchased by households.

Products         Quantity                            Price

Shoes            40                                     $60

DVDs             100                                   $18

Tomatoes       2,000                              $1

Ketchup          300                                  $4

Using the information in the above table, nominal GDP for this simple economy equals A) $7, 400. B) $6, 400. C) $5, 800 units. D) $2, 440.

<u>Answer to the First Question</u>

First the Gross Domestic Product of a Country usually represents the market value or referred to as total monetary value of finished products as well as services that were engaged in during a specific period of time and within the borders of that country. The thing about GDP is that it only reflects items that are captured as products or services and which are reported for the year.

In the question therefore, the GDP will only reflect the value of product or service that was newly created in 2016. The house was built in 2003, therefore the relevant GDP item (value of the house) was captured in 2003.

The only new value is the Value of the services of the real estate agent who was engaged in 2016 to facilitate the sales of the house.

<u>Answer to the Second Question:</u>

Nominal GDP  represents GDP valued at current market prices for products or services.

To calculate the Nominal GDP we look at the goods and then calculate based on their current market prices.

(Shoes = 40 pieces x $60) + (DVDS = 100 pieces x $18) + (Tomatoes (1000x$1 - 1/2 purchased by households)  + (Ketchup 300 x $4)

= $2400+ $1,800+ $1000+ $1,200

= $6,400
